2009 Accomplishment Highlights

 

1.     Contracted by the HHS-Administration for Children & Families (ACF) for AJIE to develop an effective coalition of human service providers and supporters that would integrate federal, state and local efforts to “Strengthen Families and Children” in the Region III DC area.

Results:

Developed an integrated a coalition of 25 partners that include federal, district and ward levels. Outcomes achieved:

Ø      Healthy Marriage & Strengthening Family Conference Howard University

      – 200 Participants

 

Ø      Facilitated Strategic planning sessions to establish vision, mission, goals,

      activities and committees.

 

Ø      Strengthening Families & Communities Coalition – DCdeveloped its Strategic Plan

 

Ø      Coalition members supported the 4th Annual AAHMI Research to Practice Conference at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in various capacities as presenters, moderators and participants at.

 

Ø      Coalition supported 4 United Planning Organization Backpack drives for students

 

Ø      Coalition supported BET Foundation’s Girls Empowerment Summit; National Organization of Colored Women’s Black Family Reunion

 

Ø      Coalition supported LifeStarts Youth & Family Service/Wedded Bliss Foundation’s graduation for “Basic Training for couples” program participants

 

 

2.     Contracted by HHS-ACF to develop an effective coalition of human service providers and supporters that would integrate federal, state and local efforts to Strengthen Families and Children” in the Region II NY/NJ area. Results:

 

New York Area:

Developed an integrated coalition of approx. 20 partners that include federal, state & city human service agencies and non-profit, political, and institutional entities.

Ø      Facilitated strategic planning sessions to establish vision, mission, goals, activities and committees.

 

Ø      Committees are working effectively to develop policy recommendations, lay out agendas to empower inner city families in significant areas.

 

New Jersey Area:

Set the foundation for identified coalition partners to be formally convened jointly by the NJ Urban Mayors Association and the ACF Region II in early January ‘10

 

3.     Contracted by the Points of Light Institute to develop a multi-state network of organizations as service partners that would actively engage in delivering on the “Million Acts of Service” initiative launched by POL in connection with the Global Peace Festival – USA. The following states responded to the call: The District of Columbia, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana, Montana, Texas, California, & Minnesota. 

4.     Asked to facilitate an international 4-day convention track on “Family” that was convened in Manila, Philippines by the Global Peace Festival Foundation. The Convention was attended by 500 participants representing 28 countries. 

5.     Convened an American Leadership Conference at Binghamton University in New York for inter-religious & inter-racial participants sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation-USA.

6.     Moderated a significant panel at the 4-day African American Healthy Marriage Initiative conference convened at the University of North Carolina.

7.     Organized and convened a special Parent’s Day celebration at City Hall in New Rochelle, NY connected with the National Parent’s Day Foundation recognizing model parents in the city. Organizers and presenters included a Deputy Mayor, Police Commissioner, prominent Rabbi (founder of the Coalition for Mutual Respect), several ministers & significant organizational leaders.
